Accomplishments for 2010

Determined organizations to receive a special communion offering each month and presented “Mission Moment” appeal for each. Seven of the chosen organizations are local: Pastor’s Discretionary Fund, Hurlburt Johnson Friendship House in Murphy, Old Union Cemetery Fund, Towns County Food Pantry, Towns-Union Habitat for Humanity, Glenda Gooch House, and the Hinton Rural Life Center.
Adopted the Hurlburt Johnson Friendship House, the only homeless shelter within 100 miles, for emphasis during the month of February. Toured the home, obtained their wish list and provided cleaning products, toiletries and paper supplies.
Held a rummage sale in April to benefit local ministries and raised $2,296.12. Proceeds were used to fund a $1,000 internship at Young Harris College, a $1,000 scholarship at North Georgia Technical College, and GED testing scholarships totaling nearly $300.
Began a campaign in July to collect school supplies, and in August delivered to Towns County Elementary School enough supplies to benefit over 100 children.

Future Plans

Hold an Alternative Giving Service in November.
In December, continue our traditional Dom’s Angel Tree to provide Christmas gifts for children whose wish lists are obtained from local community agencies.
Develop work plans for 2011, including means to continue the new scholarship programs, possibly something to help the Red Bird Mission in KY, and hands-on activities that require little or no funding.
